About Me

Photo of Sarah Leavitt

I’m a writer and cartoonist, though for the last few years I’ve mostly been cartooning.

My graphic memoir about my mother dying of Alzheimer’s, Tangles, will be published by Freehand Books in September 2010.

I have published comics, fiction and non-fiction in Geist magazine and written short documentaries for Definitely Not the Opera on CBC Radio. I’ve had comics published in Modern Dog, and my writing has also appeared in the Georgia Straight, Vancouver Review, The Globe and Mail and a number of anthologies, including Nobody’s Mother (Heritage 2006) and Beyond Forgetting: Poetry and Prose About Alzheimer’s Disease, edited by Holly Hughes with a forward by Tess Gallagher (Kent State University Press 2009). I wrote a monthly column for Xtra West, Vancouver’s gay and lesbian newspaper, from 2005-2008. I have an MFA in Creative Writing from UBC.

My agent is Samantha Haywood at Transatlantic Literary Agency.

I have a day job as a communications officer for a research institute and also provide writing, editing, content development and more on a freelance basis. Clients include social service agencies, arts organizations, publishers and others. Contact me at sarah at sarah leavitt dot com if you want to know more about this.
